Our stop between Russia and Estonia, Helsinki was a real treat. Turns out I actually like cold fish on brown bread for breakfast – who knew! We stayed at the Klaus K Hotel and enjoyed perhaps the best accommodations of the trip. The market pier offered a combination of typical farm market fare for locals, souvenirs for tourists and delicious food for everyone. The salmon soup, a milk broth with large chunks of salmon, was particularly popular and absolutely delicious. Harbor seagulls were not at all shy. In fact, outdoor dining was best done behind a net or avian “sharing” was virtually inevitable.
